The transfers that might have been : PLATINI at Arsenal !


Michel Platini turned down offers to play for Arsenal when he left St Etienne for Juventus in 1982. Michel PLATINI signed his contract with Juventus FC the friday 30th april 1982 and with the France Football magazine number 1882 of the 4th may 1982 we know that Arsenal's board were in St-Etienne for a last chance the thursday 29th april 1982. Some years later Platini said : "I had proposals from English clubs like Arsenal and my wife wanted to go to London," Of the chance to join Arsenal Football Club, the former France captain said: "I decided against it because you play too many games in England, and I went to Italy. The continuing congested fixture schedule in English football was also the reason, he said, why Premiership clubs often struggled in European competition.When you don't have a winter break you can't be at your highest level when the spring comes," he added. "Actually, you are injury-prone and the team cannot be at its best. You don't have such a heavy schedule in Italy. In five years in Serie A I was never injured." With Juventus, Platini won the Ballon d'Or three times, in 1983, 1984 and 1985.
