The day when Ajax destroyed UEFA Cup record

After failing to defend their title during the 1983-84 season, Ajax Amsterdma started the 1984–85 UEFA Cup as a pretender to the final victory with the emergence of young players Marco van Basten, Frank Rijkaard, Gerald Vanenburg, John van 't Schip or Ronald Koeman (FC Groningen former player who arrived at Ajax the season before). Ajax 1984-85 UEFA Cup's campaign began at Luxembourg for the First Round. Their oppponents is the FA Red Boys Differdange who had a fantastic record in European Cup history. Red Boys never progressed past the first tie in any European competition. The club won one match in Europe, winning their 1979–80 European Cup European Cup first leg 2–1 against Omonia Nicosia before losing 6–1 in Cyprus. In the 1984–85 UEFA Cup, Red Boys managed a surprise goalless draw with giants Ajax at home. But two weeks later, the giant wake up and it was a nightmare for the Red Boys. The 3rd october 1984 at De Meer Stadion Ajax destroyed the luxembourgish team 14-0 !! Super Marco Van Basten scored 5 times and Ronald Koeman scored an hat-trick althoughis a defender !.
