Henrik Larsson Leg Break

Last time I talked about the most beautiful goals I've ever seen in a stadium (have a look on the topic : Marlet, Bergkamp, Roberto Carlos - The 3 best goals I've ever seen in a stadium) but today I share with you the worst injury I've ever seen on a pitch. Of course it's once again at Gerland (Lyon's stadium) because as you know now I'm a very loyal fan of Olympique Lyonnais since my childhood. During Celtic's 1–0 defeat in a UEFA Cup tie against Lyon on 22 October 1999, Larsson suffered a career-threatening injury, breaking his leg in two places in a challenge with Serge Blanc. This resulted in him spending eight months on the sidelines. HENRIK LARSSON suffered an horrific broken leg after only 12 minutes of this game in Lyon. The Swedish international fell to the ground, writhing in agony and clutching his left leg, after attempting to challenge Serge Blanc. Larsson's team-mates were visibly upset by the extent of the injury. With painful irony it was Blanc who emerged after 63 minutes to hit the winner for Lyon with a magnificent angled drive which settled proceedings on a night in which Celtic defended bravely throughout. But Serge Blanc was very shocked at the end of the match. He said just after the game : "It was an accident. There was a little contact between us but nothing that should have caused that kind of injury. I feel very bad because I saw that his leg was open. I saw it and I had to turn away. When you see an injury like that it breaks your heart".  His manager said the same thing the days after : "Serge was very shocked and you could see this visibly in training for the two or three days after the match. It took him a little while to get over it". AS important it was this goal was the saddest of the franch defender's career.
