A standing ovation for DIEGO in Yugoslavia

After the 1982 World Cup, in June, Maradona was transferred to FC Barcelona in Spain for a then world record fee of £5m ($7.6m). Barcelona's manager was Udo Lattek and while cleary unused to german coach's hard traininig methods, Diego Maradona started the season, as had been widely predicted, forming the team's foreign tandem alongside Bernd Schuster. Ballon d'or Allan Simonsen was left on the bench. Lattek declared that the German and the Argentine complemented each other perfectly. And they did, initiating and combining brilliant moves from their midfield positions and driving home goals reminiscent of the golden days of Cruyff. In one of the early matches, Maradona and Schuster also showed that they were capable of drawing some extraordinary ressources. Still only one game recovered from a leg injury, Maradona persuaded Lattek to bring him for a difficult game in Belgrade against hard oppopnent, the Red Star. It was the 20th october 1982 (six years ago to the day of his first professional match with Argentinos Juniors at 16) for the first leg of European Cup Winners' Cup Second round. Diego Maradona and the FC Barcelona team left the Marakana Stadium in Belgrade to a prolonged standing ovation after a stunning show ! Maradona and Schuster scored two goals each, ensuring a 4-2 win over the Yugoslav champions and lead 3-0 after one hour. Diego's second goal is jsut amazing. Have a look of this kind of magic :
