UK Football Team - Southampton FC 1990

Following the last topic of New Southampton's manager Mauricio POCHETTINO, today a UK football team special Saints.  I choose the 1989-90 season  because it was the year when Matthew Le Tissier was credited with the PFA Young Player of the Year award for his exciting performances and in which he was one of the league's top goalscorers with 20 goals. LE TISSIER was an attacking midfielder with exceptional technical skills. He was the first midfielder to score 100 goals in the Premier League. He is notable for his record at scoring penalty kicks (converting from the spot 47 times from 48 attempts). Le Tissier spent his entire professional club career with Southampton. In spite of interest from clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur in 1990 and Chelsea in 1996, Le Tissier remained at Southampton for his entire professional career, his loyalty garnering special affection from Southampton's fans who nicknamed him "Le God". But I have a question, why he never played for France ? No no I'm serious, He was born in Guernsey.  Guernsey it's a mixed island between England and France, have a look of the languages on the island : English is the predominant one and the French the legislative one. And his name ? Matthew is an english name but LE TISSIER is so French !! At the begining of the 90's, Michel PLATINI when he was the French national manager was interested by him and asked to his assistants to investigate if LE TISSIER have french origins and if he's interested to play for France. You know the following events. LE TISSIER is a english footballer and gained eight caps for the England national football team and Platini went to other missions...Before to watch the Southampton's 1989-90 roster by Panini, a link to a old topic on Old Schoop Panini : Tribute to Matthew LE TISSIER with his best 3 goals.

And as I talk only about Le TISSIER, to be forgiven here it comes the Sun Pictures of the Saints 1989-90 and a Wallace end.
