UK Football Team - Norwich City 1993

The 1992-93 season was the 114th season of football in England and it was the inaugural season of the Premier League. Norwich City led the league for most of the season, before faltering in the final weeks to finish third behind the champions, Manchester United, and Aston Villa.Norwich had  finished 18th the previous season and sold star striker Robert Fleck to Chelsea, leading many to tip the Canaries to struggle in the new Premier League. However, Norwich maintained a surprise title challenge throughout the season, even topping the table with six games left to play, before falling away in the last few weeks of the season to finish third, behind Manchester United and Aston Villa. Despite this, third was Norwich's highest-ever finish in the top flight. As Arsenal had already qualified for the Cup Winners' Cup through their FA Cup triumph, Norwich would be competing in the UEFA Cup next season - their first foray into European competition, a case of fourth time lucky as they had missed on playing in Europe despite a League Cup victory and two top-five league finishes from 1985 to 1989 as a result of the ban on English clubs in European competitions due to the Heysel disaster. Despite the third place finish, Norwich had the unsatisfactory distinction of finishing the season with a negative goal difference (-7), mainly as a result of a 7-1 thrashing at newly-promoted Blackburn Rovers.
