Manuel Luis Pellegrini Ripamonti is a Chilean
former footballer, he played centre-back. If everybody knows him as he current
manager of English Premier League side Manchester City and also because he has
managed many famous teams mostly in Spain and Argentina (San Lorenzo, River
Plate, Villareal, Real Madrid...) however few people in Europe know he was a
competent footballer. From 1973 to 1986 he made his entire career in the second
best team in the country, Universidad Chile. With this club based in his native
city (Santiago, Chile), Pellegrini played 451 games with the professional team
in Chile first division, scored only one goal and received seven red cards.
Universidad Chile is his club, he played for all the young teams category, then
he played all his professional career with this team and after retiring as a
player, he moved into coaching in his former club ! He was an international
player with 28 caps.
