UK Football Team - Tottenham Hotspur 1987

A long struggling season for David Pleat's Tottenham Hotspur, who finished in third place in First division and lost in final at Wembley for the FA CUP and in semi-final in the League Cup versus their arch-rivals of Arsenal. Coventry City and Tottenham Hotspur contested the final. Coventry were in the final for the first time, whereas Tottenham had won all seven of their previous appearances. But a 3–2 win after extra time gave Coventry the first major trophy in their history. The ban on English clubs in Europe prevented them from qualifying for the European Cup Winners' Cup. Tottenham goalkeeper Ray Clemence, 39, retired at the end of a long and distinguished playing career after this match. Tottenham Hotspur striker Clive Allen, who scored 49 goals in all competitions, was voted Player of the Year by both the PFA and FWA – although his prolific goalscoring was not enough to win any trophies for Spurs who had been in the hunt for all three domestic prizes throughout the season. Tottenham player a fantastic football under David PLEAT managing and one of the best moment of the season was when Tottenham Hotspur book their eighth FA Cup final appearance with a 4–1 triumph over Watford at Villa Park in the semi-final.
