Freddy RINCON recherché par Interpol

Il était l'un des piliers de la grande équipe de Colombie des années 80-90. Celle de l'immense Carlos Valderrama et du fantasque gardien Rene Higuita. Freddy Rincon était à la pointe de ce onze magique de «tocadores», allant jusqu'au but en autant de passes courtes que de mèches frisottées sur la tête de leur capitaine. Une équipe qui a vu son rêve se briser lors de la Coupe du monde 94 quand, de retour après un mondial décevant, le défenseur Andres Escobar s'était fait descendre. Lui Freddy RINCON avait la belle vie ensuite, passé par Naples ou le Réal de Madrid il a fait une belle carrière internationale. Puis on apprenait qu'une fois les crampons raccrochés, il était devenu un riche homme d'affaires, Rincón a créé les Café Rincon, une marque de café célèbre au Brésil et en Colombie. Seulement en 2007, treize ans après la coupe du monde aux Etats-Unis, Rincon entre à son tour dans le panthéon des footeux colombiens qui ont vu leur destin mêlé à celui du crime organisé. Freddy RINCON est ainsi sous le coup d'un mandat d'arrêt international dans le cadre de l'enquête visant le trafiquant de drogue colombien Pablo Rayo Montano, arrêté au Brésil en 2006 et ce depuis 2007. Puis on avait plus de nouvel alors que depuis aujourd'hui court un nouveau mandat d'arrêt international pour trafic de drogue et blanchiment d'argent a été lancé par Interpol. INTERPOL on Monday issued a new international arrest warrant for former Colombian soccer player Freddy Rincon. The 46-year-old renowned soccer star is wanted by Panamanian authorities. Rincon is charged with collaborating with the imprisoned Colombian drug kingpin, Pablo Rayo Montaño, and is also suspected of money laundering. Colombian police seized items from several of the former athlete's properties in the western Colombian department of Valle del Cauca. The initial scandal broke in 2006 when Montaño was arrested in Brazil. The famed soccer star denied having any links to the druglord but later recanted, saying that he and Montaño were both born in the western port city of Buenaventura and knew each other as kids. Rincon later admitted to investing money in one of Montaño's Panama-based companies. Rincon and 96 others were originally implicated in a criminal investigation in Colombia and Panama. Of the original 96, 20 were acquitted during a preliminary hearing in April of 2011. The other 76, including Rincon, are still awaiting trial.
